Kitwe Brothers Put On Defence For Death of Mother

TWO brothers of Kitwe charged with allegedly murdering their mother have been found with a case to answer by the Kitwe High Court.
This is in a case in which Emmanuel Katongo Jr, 22, and his 17-year-old younger brother are jointly charged with murdering Ethel Gondwe and causing grievous bodily harm to their father, Emmanuel Katongo senior.
The two brothers allegedly stabbed Mr Katongo in the neck.
In the first count, it is alleged that Emmanuel and his younger brother on April 26 this year in Kitwe, jointly and whilst acting together murdered Ms Gondwe.
In the second count, Emmanuel is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Katongo
The two brothers pleaded not guilty.
But when the matter came up for ruling on Wednesday, Kitwe High Court judge Chilombo Phiri said she was satisfied that the State had established a prima facie case of murder against Emmanuel and the boy.
“I accordingly put both of them on their defence,” Mrs Justice Phiri said.
She, however, reserved ruling in the second count to allow Emmanuel and his brother to file written submissions.
Earlier, an investigations officer in the case told the court that he learnt that the younger brother was the one who allegedly hit Ms Gondwe with an iron bar on the head.
Detective Inspector Juma Chenga narrated that he learnt that the boy allegedly told Emmanuel that since he had done his part to kill their mother, it was his turn to also murder Mr Katongo
Mr Chenga told the court that during the course of his investigation, he did not recover the iron bar which was allegedly used in the murder because suspects claimed that they allegedly threw it into the Kafue River.

These kids are crazy.they were obviously abused heavily.imwe bafikala,mu chaalo tubombela abafyashi,abana naba kashi.u ar a danger to society and u should be hanged immediately before u even go to jaiL because even in jail u can be dangers to yo fellow prisoners.may God hav mercy on yo souls
