Former Women International Boxing Association (WIBA) welterweight champion Esther Phiri’s opponent in next month’s international non-title fight Victorina Bricez of Uruguay has pulled out.
And Esther’s fight which was set for next Saturday at Lusaka’s Country Pub has been pushed to next month.
Exodus Boxing Promotions Stables manager Antony Mwamba confirmed the development in an interview in Lusaka yesterday.
Mwamba said Esther will now fight Jennifer Fachio also from Uruguay on September 20 at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.
“Esther’s earlier announced opponent Victorina has pulled out. She can’t fight because she is pregnant. But another boxer from that same country has been chosen as Esther’s next opponent,” Mwamba said.
He said the fight which was set for August 9 has been postponed due to financial constraints.
The organising committee is still struggling to raise K450, 000 needed to stage the fight.
“We had to push the fight to another date because we have not met our budget. The venue has also been changed because, we thought Country Pub will be too small to stage a fight…As you are aware my boxers are credible, they are a crowd puller and Mulungushi will be convenient for the event, more over its Esther’s home ground,” he said.
The much-anticipated International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight title fight between Joseph Chingangu and Francis Zulu has also been rescheduled on the same date.

And you say ‘the much anticipated’ anticipated by who? Those two fat drags do not entertain at all. Kubanesu ‘heavyweight’ means huge guys who have built their muscle with limited fat. Ifwe nifi galagata gluttons notufumo twa chibuku!!

Awe ifyupo nabakwata Willie Nsanda fyalipwa. Now she agrees that she was being taken for a ride. Honestly Esther thought that man with all his experience with women can stick to her. This is a lesson. You were better off with your kaponya at least he went out with you when you had nothing. They say the grass is always greener on the other side until you get there only to discover it’s brown. The devil you know. ………..Kikikiki!
