Man Commits Suicide After Being Accused Of Stealing Vegetables From His Neighbour’s Pot
A man of chief Tungati’s area in Luwingu has allegedly committed suicide after he was accused of stealing vegetables from his neighbour’s pot.
Circumstances surrounding the case are that Paul Nkaka went to drink beer at his neighbour’s house.
While drinking with three friends, Nkaka allegedly stole and ate vegetables from the pot which was on a brazier placed near where he was seated.
Upon her return from inside the house where she had gone to serve other clients, Mary Chisha, the owner of the house, noticed that the pot had no lid, with very little vegetables left in it.
According to Northern Province police commissioner Charity Katanga who confirmed the development, a quarrel ensued between Chisha and Nkaka.
She explained that after Chisha was overpowered, she hit Nkana with a log on his right eye out of frustration, causing him an injury.
“We received a report of alleged suicide on 28th July 2014 from Royld Bwalya, 55 of Mulenga Shikaika village chief Tungati in Luwingu who reported that his nephew, Paul Nkaka, 22 of the same address had committed suicide over allegations that he had stolen rape (vegetable) from his neighbour’s pot where he had gone to drink a locally brewed beer known as Katata,” Katanga said.
Katanga said after the fight, which also involved his three friends, Nkaka said he would commit suicide owing to the embarrassment the allegation had caused him.
“The next day Nkaka was found dead in a nearby bush where he allegedly hanged himself, using fibre from a tree, in a kneeling position. We have picked up three of his friends, including Chisha to help with investigations. Post-mortem has been done and we are waiting for a report,” Katanga said.
