TB Joshua Building Collapse Death Toll HITS 57

Lagos – The death toll from a collapsed guesthouse at a megachurch in Nigeria’s financial capital Lagos hit 57 on Tuesday, rescuers said, as they held out hopes that more survivors would be found.

Eight bodies were pulled overnight from the rubble of a collapsed guesthouse at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos’ Ikotun neighbourhood, Ibrahim Farinloye, southwest coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), told AFP by text message.

Farinloye said rescuers extracted a woman alive from the building’s rubble on Tuesday morning.

She was able to walk away from the collapse with just a broken wrist. The discovery prompted rescuers to slow down their digging in the wreckage of the guesthouse.

“It’s going to be slower because we believe we can recover more people alive by the grace of God,” Farinloye said, adding that rescuers were focusing on the area around the hostel’s restaurant, where previous survivors have been found.

‘Truth will someday prevail’

A total of 131 people were injured in the collapse of the hostel, which housed Nigerian and foreign followers of the popular preacher and televangelist TB Joshua.

Joshua’s network of churches and a television station have attracted people from around the world to Lagos with promises of receiving miracles and prophecies from the man followers dub “The Prophet”.

Joshua has suggested that a low-flying aircraft was responsible for the collapse and released security camera footage apparently showing a plane flying four times over the hostel before its collapse.

Ikotun is located to the west of Lagos’s international aircraft.

The preacher has not commented directly on the deaths and initially claimed that only a few people were injured but on Sunday tweeted: “No matter how long a lie is sustained, truth will someday prevail.”

“When we asked the T.B.Joshua camp about Efe’s final statement on approval, we were told that T.B.Joshua did not need the state governments approval, because he already had the anionted approval of God. This makes sense, after all if Jesus says yes, nobody can say no.Absolutely NOBODY and this includes the Lagos state government, engineering students and Sir Isaac Newton … I mean who are they to challenge God with engineering principles”.

This figures from TB Josua a massaged. Read times live from RSA, 67 South Africans alone died in that building collapse. So whats the total number of deaths. Its time also Kalaba started focusing on finding out how many zambians were casualties of this tragedy instead of wasting precious time talking about marketing zambia uing the Jubile. Tackle real issues or you are not fit to be foreign affairs minister. TB Joshua release the real number of casualties.

The truth about the TB Josua building collapse:

Joshua has tried to implicate Islamic extremists in the building collapse, publishing a video purporting to show a mysterious aircraft flying low over the building four times before the disaster. He told a televised service on Sunday that his church has been targeted before by Nigeria’s home grown Boko Haram extremist group.

Joshua initially claimed that only a few people were injured and then suggested that a low-flying aircraft was responsible for the collapse.

On Tuesday he tweeted: “Hard times may test me, they cannot destroy me.”

However, Ibrahim Farinloye of the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency said the building appears to have collapsed because of poor construction work.

He said workers were trying to build two additional floors onto an existing four-storey structure without reinforcing the foundations.

The Synagogue, “hid so much information from us, and [this is] the cause of frustration for rescuers”, Farinloye said.

He has wood winked many so many believers, whilst stealing from them in the name of God. The people flock there and pay thousands in dollars for accommodation. The growth in business was so high, he could not wait to get a new plot for more units. What does he do, he forcefully starts building 2 storeys units on top of the 4 storeys. And like a real Nigerian when the foundation could not hold the weight of the extra 2 storeys, it becomes a conspiracy of the plan flying around. I am even surprised that people are accusing Shamenda of lying about being corrupted. TB Joshua is a conman and the Nigerian government knows it. Harry Kalaba should also should check with the Nigerian Embassy and Zambian High Commission in Nigeria to find out how many zambians have been affected and provide support and flights to bring in the dead. He should set up a contact number at foreign affairs for people to call whose relatives were in Nigeria at the time of the collapse instead of wating time talking about the Jubile. I thought of him highly as a young man, not anymore.
