Police Search For Pastor In ‘Holy Water’ Death Incident

Police in Southern Province have intensified the search for a clergyman alleged to have given holy water suspected to have killed a Zimba man last Tuesday.

Provincial police commissioner, Mary Chikwanda, appealed to members of the public who may know the whereabouts of the purported clergyman believed to have offered 47-year-old Geoffrey Simaubi holy water suspected to have contained a poisonous substance.

Chikwanda, however, said results of the postmortem were not yet out but police were on the ground to bring to book the alleged clergyman of a named church.

On Tuesday last week, a pastor identified as Peter Njobvu allegedly gave holy water to Simaubi of Simwatachela chiefdom in Zimba district who later died.

The deceased was reported to have vomited after allegedly consuming the holy water before he died.

During his sermon conducted in Simwatachela village, Njobvu called for ‘sinners’ to go forward where he allegedly sprinkled holy water on them and gave some to Simaubi to drink while others refused.

“As police, we have intensified our search for this clergyman and we are appealing to the general members who may know where this pastor is [to alert the police],” said Chikwanda.

It appears these people are just sangomas/ witchdoctors using the name of pastor to entice people. People beware of such preachers in buses as well.

Church is a place where thieves (pastors) can steal & cheat in broad day light without being caught.

Bamu bus, I told one off. He was selling ‘anointing oil’, k50.00 a bottle. Told him to stop cheating people. I asked him to state how he arrived at k50.00 for the ‘power of God’ in a bottle. He promised to get back to me, he ‘prayed’ for all of us on the bus and got off quickly. Kawalalas!

These people are not pastors, they are just using the titles to discredited this calling. All what they are doing is contrary to the teaching of the Bible. who do they represent?
