Council Decides to Keep CBU Crippled

COPPERBELT University (CBU) Council has decided to keep the major part of the institution non-operational pending consultations with the Ministry of Education.
The Council made the resolution yesterday after a special meeting convened to discuss the impasse that has rocked the university since lecturers and other academic staff went on strike over a month ago demanding the resignation of vice-chancellor Professor Naison Ngoma and top management.
CBU registrar Hellen Mukumba, who released the statement on behalf of the Council in Kitwe, said the academic life of major parts of the university will remain non-operational.
She said the Council will present its resolutions to the Minister of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education, Michael Kaingu.
“The Council has made decisions and resolutions towards reducing the time that the academic life of major parts of the university remains non-operational. The Council will present these resolutions to the Minister of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education,” Ms Mukumba said.
She said the Council considered reports from special committees which were set up to study specific concerns raised by all parties to the dispute.
The lecturers, who have not come up with specific charges against Prof Ngoma, accuse him of alleged lack of academic focus. Government closed the institution prematurely after a violent protest by students over the prolonged strike.

Replacing lecturers is not as difficult as you think. To begin with there are more than 1000 Zambians with masters besides we have more than two million degree holders. These persons can successfully teach at university level. If you have gone to any university you will agree with me that some students teach better than lecturers. Lastly students are different from pupils because students can teach on their own. Only Kambwili style of leadership will save our country

Such advocation of mediocrity can only come from a G12 with division 2 or 3..a failure, who has struggled even to get admission at such mainstream uni like UNZA and CBU and ends at substand house based universities that are located everywhere at every street corner and next bars..Going by your yardstick, you are among those 1000 crap calling themselves graduates.coming from pocket universities such as Copperstone, Eastnorthsouthwest University among that crap calling themselves graduates….cant even process a word document…Universities elsewhere do not employ master holders.. Get a life chimp!!!

Kayula you went @the university for a visity but not to learn. If you went to a university that could be a private and very useless one, which is after money.
Do you realy think a person with BSc can teach a student who want to aquire BSc. ist making sense?

Super human tell me what is not true. Calling me names or insults will not help me. I have gone to school and I know what m talking about. Some students are better than some lecturers. If you think Govt can plead for professionals you are 100% wrong Zambians have gone to school. Let CBU management advertise you will be shocked my dear.

At whatever university my dear you will find lecturers who started teaching immediately they graduated with first degrees. You will also find students assigned by lecturers to teach fellow students. You will also find party time lecturers. Tell me the university in Zambia i will mention names of lecturers I am talking about. All m saying is even if those lecturers resigned CBU cant close forver. In fact the institution can even have better lecturers. Institutions where those lecturers came from are still there

@Obsever,Mune-you are dull, the opposition parties have nothing to do with this impasse at CB!Its just that your PF is full filling its promise of having no vision!Every institution & sector is in shambles! Its really a flea circus in pathetic PF under that Jameson Lungu with his Ukwashi Chiliye Mukoshi Chishimba!Kambwili never ceases to display his fatalism theatre artistics! He did it with Times of Zambia,Electro Commission of Zambia,Muvi tv,UNZA,Chuundu Chaitwa,ZNBC,…& now CBU-very dull chaps masquerading as leaders-these are mercenary mafias leading Zambian Government! However, for the first time on this online medium,I tend to agree with Kayula over lecturers’ issue!

Anybody siding with the lecturers out there? Please HELP ME!
What examples have these lecturers given in their accusation of “privatisation”?
Do the lecturers’contracts include hiring and firing management?
Management makes “corporate decisions”. How in hell do these decisions affect the academic wing ONLY than the entire university?
Isn’t there anybody who can explain to them what an illegal strike is?
I have asked questions without any political innuendo.
It seems, to me, we have a crop of dull lecturers.
