Social media users have blasted Zambian born Dr Kiran Patel For Donating US $200 million to University of Florida and not doing much to his home country Zambia. He was born in Zambia, raised up in Kabwe and went to do his Medical School in India.(Above is a photo of his multimillion dollar mansion in Hillsborough County)
Patel grew up in apartheid-era Zambia, where he had to move 80km to go to school as there was none in his town for non-white students. He attended medical school in India and moved to the US with his wife, also a medical doctor, on Thanksgiving Day in 1976.
Patel went from cardiologist to businessman when he created a network of physicians with different specialities. But the real breakthrough came in ( in 1992 when he took over a health insurance company on the verge of bankruptcy.
Ten years later when the Patels sold the firm, it had more than 400,000 members and revenue in excess of $1bn.

According to some internet documents, Dr Kiran Patel has hospitals both in Zambia and in India but one major question social media users have asked is:
“How many Zambians succeed out there in the diaspora and buy mansions and assets in foreign capitals? but would not build even a shack in their village or sink a borehole for safe drinking water?
