CHIEF Chisunka of the Ushi people of Mansa district says it is unjustifiable for some people to call for Harry Kalaba’s resignation as Bahati PF member of parliament when others stick in government like senseless flies sticking to a corpse and waiting to be buried together with it.

Kalaba resigned as foreign affairs minister on January 2, with a damning Facebook posting that touched on corruption in the PF government, among other reasons. He, however, remains Bahati PF member of parliament, although the governing party’s rank and file is now calling on him to also resign as a lawmaker and leave the ruling party.

In an interview from his palace, chief Chisunka said only a few people in government would detach themselves from opulence.

“Then nangu uyu muntu balelanda ati afumepo, banono abengachita ukweba ati umuntu afuma pali butter and bread! (Even if they are saying this person should resign, very few people will leave the lavishness of their office of having bread and butter). Bambi mu government babanga tulunshi utwachimpwena; uka koting’e ako (Others are like senseless flies; you should quote that.) Bambi babanga balunshi abachimpwena abashikilwa kumo nechitumbi. (Others are like senseless flies that are buried together with a corpse.) You know kalunshi? Uli mu Tonga…(Do you know a fly? You are Tonga…) Bali mbuli kanzinini kaya kanga kayide kuunkilila biyo; muntu wafwa pesi nzinini ilikkede choibwene biya ati eeci cintu cilifwide, mpoonya bakuizika ancico. (They are like that fly that follows aimlessly; a fly will be seated, without any worry, on a corpse until it is buried together with that corpse.) Tabayandi kuti basile benzinyina. (Others don’t want to give chance to their colleagues to get into government). Nomba nga epo mwana wamfumu, tafwaile ifyo; afwaile abanankwe nabena babombeko. (But as a royal son, he (Kalaba) didn’t like that; he thought of giving chance to his colleagues.) Insansa kuchinjana – emashiwe alandile umwana wamfumu. (Joy should be relayed –those were the words of the royal son). Ndelanda ngemfumu pantu naba mwine mushi bailishile mukunjipusha ifyo fine ‘kanabesa mumfwile shani kumuntu wenu?’(I’m speaking as a chief and even my village headmen came to ask me about whether I heard anything from my subject (Kalaba). Nalibebele nati awe alishile mukulaya umwana. (I told them that my son came to bid farewell to me). Balilandile mu November ati before 10th January, ndetusha. Abantu bandi abaleisa kuno efyo ndebeba ifyo fine nati awe ine nalishibe, techeni. Alitulaya fwelupwa. (He came in November saying I’ll be resting before 10th January. So even my subjects that are coming to inquire from me about it, what I’m telling them is that it (resignation) is something I knew about beforehand and so, it wasn’t strange),” chief Chisunka said.
