“In 1975, the UN declared 8th March as International Women’s Day to champion the global movement for women’s rights.
The fight for women’s rights takes different shapes in different contexts. But while the day to day fight looks different for women in different countries, cultures, and careers, the bottom line is that 43 years later, women all over the world STILL have to fight for equality. Rich or poor. Black, brown or yellow. Blue collar or white collar. Entertainer or professional. Women STILL have to fight to be equal.
Today, I urge all women, and men, to uphold the fight for the right of women to be equal. This is not a fight for women only. It’s not a fight for feminists only. It is a fight for people and for mankind. For the sake of our sons and daughters, we must #PressforProgress and ensure that the next 43 years tell a triumphant story of this fight for equality.” She posted on her Facebook page in her In her International Women’s Day message.
