THIS government will only listen when we demonstrate, Ndola’s Ndeke residents have warned. And the residents on Sunday evening assembled to protest over the continued poor state of the Chiwala road, which leads to Senior Chief Chiwala, Dangote Cement, and Ndola Lime.

In June 2018, police fought running battles with residents of Ndeke, who protested the poor state of the Chiwala road.

The residents blocked the road with wood and burning tyres, causing serious traffic as trucks going to or leaving Nelhkant and Ndola Lime were blocked.

“We feel neglected by the government. There is nothing that this government is doing for us. We have been promised and promised. Ba Bowman Lusambo came here last year and promised that this road will be done. We can’t even bath here. There is no point for us. The only thing we can do is getting sick here. So ba government, ba PF, naba Edgar Lungu stop telling us lies. We are not children. Ala kutumpa nomba (now this is stupidity). Mwatubelesha pafula (you’ve gotten too familiar with us enough),” angrily retorted Agness Kalumba at the time.

And yesterday, the residents again gathered and warned of massive protests.

“We feel that the only way this government will listen is by having massive protests. Last month, we listened to their lies and they promised to work on the road within two weeks, but look it’s over a month now. So they have taken us for fools. We will have massive demonstrations here and no one will stop us,” warned Kelvin Kabanda.

“There is no representative to put forward our interest. We voted on the promises that we will see change. Now that we can’t see that change, we will change them. Even last minute works on this road will not change our minds. We are resolved because we have suffered of dust and it’s enough.”
