The Police command has moved swiftly to suspend the four traffic Police officers of Lusaka’s Matero Police station who were caught mounting an illegal roadblock and extorting money from motorists by Lusaka province Minister Bowman Lusambo.
The suspension of the four officers namely Sergeant Laban Bwalya,Sergeant Charity Zuze constables Moses Chiinga and Mukeya Chibesa is with immediate effect.
Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja says this should serve as a warning to all other officers in the system that his command will not support any corrupt activities among police officers.
Mr. Kanganja says any misconduct involving police officers will not be taken lightly and that his command will ensure that all those involved are dealt with in accordance with the law.
In a statement obtained by QTV News Mr. Kanganja states that police officers are expected to be above board as they are mandated to enforce the law with dignity.
Mr. Kanganja has warned that he will ensure that punitive action is taken against the officers involved and any other officer that will be found wanting.
He says the conduct of the four suspended police officers is therefore shameful and an embarrassment to the Zambia Police.
