TAZARA Adjust Train Fares

FOLLOWING the continued depreciation of the Kwacha against other emerging currencies, the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) has adjusted the passenger train fares upwards.
Last week, the Kwacha further depreciated to breach the K10 mark, resulting in TAZARA increasing its fares by an average of K5, last adjusted in 2013.
On Friday, the Kwacha was equal to 223.79 Tanzanian shillings.
“The increase has been necessitated to re-align the Kwacha-denominated passenger train fares to equalise them with Tanzanian shilling-denominated fares,” TAZARA says in a statement issued on Friday.
The fares have been increased for all the routes for both express and regular travel.
