A ZAMBIA Air Force (ZAF) officer has pleaded not guilty to slapping and rapturing an eardrum of a Lusaka woman.
This is in a case Mwendalubi Hamane, 38, is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
It is alleged that Hamane, a major, of Twin Palm, on July 30 this year, allegedly assaulted Naomi Tembo and occasioned her actual bodily harm.
Ms Tembo, 31, suffered a fractured neck after she fell as a result of the impact of the alleged slap.
When the matter came up yesterday for plea before Magistrate David Simusamba, Hamane, who is being represented by two layers, denied the charge.
“I understand the charge and plead not guilty,” Hamane said.
The State was ready for trial with one witness but the defence was not prepared to proceed with the matter.
Magistrate Simusamba adjourned the matter to September 4, 2018 for commencement of trial and extended Hamane’s police bond.
Ms Tembo followed the court proceedings with her husband.
After taking plea, Hamane left the courtroom immediately alongside his relatives.
