Women Nabbed Over 2-Minute Video Beating

Two  women of Kamfinsa Correctional Service camp in Kitwe have been arrested for allegedly insulting and beating a semi-naked woman on suspicion that she had sexual affairs with their husbands.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said the two women were arrested in connection with the incident which was filmed and posted on social media.
In the over two-minute video, a half-naked woman is seen being slapped and pulled around by two women who are heard cursing and accusing her of cheating with their husbands.

A man who seemed to be filming the ordeal is heard saying the incident would be posted on social media. A woman’s voice is also heard threatening that she could kill the victim who was surrounded by on-lookers, some of whom advised that she be dragged to the street. The victim explains to her aggressors that she is not going out with any of their husbands.

Ms Katongo said in an interview yesterday that the victim has reported the matter to police and two women have been arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and will appear in court soon. “The incident was reported to have happened on November 8 at 16:00 hours at Kitwe’s Kamfinsa Correctional Service camp,” she said.

Ms Katongo said the incident was only reported to the police on Thursday last week by the victim, whose name has been withheld.
“The victim reported that on the material day, she was at home with her female friend, who was in the company of a male friend, a correctional service officer,” she said. Ms Katongo said the victim suddenly saw the officer’s wife, identified as Melody Likando, entering the house with her friends.
Ms Likando then allegedly dragged the victim, who was half-dressed, from the bedroom where she was applying lotion on her body.

At this point, the male correctional service officer was in the sitting room with the victim’s female friend. Ms Likando and her friend, identified as Constance Mushili of the same camp, allegedly started beating the woman they accused of having an affair with the former’s husband.
Ms Katongo said the person who filmed the incident and posted it on social media is on the run and police have launched a manhunt for him.
“We appeal to members of the public not to take the law into their own hands when aggrieved but to report such matters to relevant authorities,” she said.
