Five people have died while three others sustained injuries in an accident involving six vehicles at Dellas, north of Mazabuka town, on the Great North Road. Those who died at about 06:40 hours yesterday are four females and a male, and all resided in Mazabuka.
Southern Province Deputy Commissioner of Police Ndandula Siamana said the vehicles involved included a Hino truck driven by Charles Chari, 54, of South Africa, and a Volvo truck driven by Emmanuel Chimbipa, 34, of Chikumbi in Kabwe.
Ms Siamana said a Toyota Noah driven by Emmanuel Daka, a Nissan car driven by Odycious Hamweemba, 48, and a Benz light truck were also involved.
She said the sixth vehicle was a Toyota Alphard driven by Emelia Mbewe, 26, of Chelston.
“The accident happened when the driver of the Hino truck lost control of the vehicle and hit into a Volvo truck which was coming from the opposite direction,” Ms Siamana said.
She said the Hino truck also rammed into the other three motor vehicles which resulted in the driver of the Toyota Noah losing control and the vehicle overturned. Ms Siamana identified the four females who died on the spot as Maureen Kapata, 37, Ruth Zulu, Nasilele Mubiana and Memory Zulu, all of Mazabuka. They suffered head injuries.
She said the driver of the Noah, identified as Emmanuel Daka, 40, of Hillside Mazabuka, sustained a fractured neck and died on the way to the hospital. Ms Siamana said the survivors are Agness Bundi, 25, of Zambia Compound in Mazabuka, Mary Mubanga, of Overall township and another unknown female.
She said all the bodies are in Mazabuka District Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem while survivors are admitted to the same facility
RTSA is also a contributing factor to such kind of accident. Honestly how do you allow such a small bus used to carry groceries to be ferrying people long distance. During public seating we have asked many a time why this is allowed up to date Soko and his juniors have never given proper answers bunda bwakuleta utufomo kuma seatings and drinking mineral water kwati ekubomba. Can soko and hes junior stop these small buses operating long distance because such accidents will never end, we will not survive in the name of killing people, no. Wake up and work and do the right thing. Limbi kiti ulelanda kanshi soko nao alikwata ama Noah.
one Key,the accident is caused by the Hino truck, not a Noar car,it seems you own buses so you think those small buses from Down Town are competing with you.those small buses are carying certified number of passengers, let RDA work on the rd,and at Dallas it should be made wider say 3 lanes.
