POLICE are pursuing Kalulushi mayor, Rashida Mulenga’s husband, Godfrey Kangwa Chipasha in connection with a road compactor recovered from the couple’s residence.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga confirmed the incident and revealed that two council employees Godfrey Chibesa and Lloyd Chipelebwe have been arrested for theft of the road compactor.
The duo, employed as fire fighters at Kalulushi Municipal Council led police to the residence of Kalulushi Mayor Rashida Mulenga where the road equipment was recovered.
Ms Katanga said the two are believed to have sold the equipment to Mr. Chipasha.
Ms Katanga explained that after interrogation, the two suspects led the police to the residence of the mayor where the equipment was retrieved.
She said the compactor, worth K10, 000 was sold at K700 to Mr Chipasha. “I can confirm that we have a case of theft by public servant involving two fire fighters at the council. They are alleged to have stolen a road compactor worth K10, 000 and sold it to the husband of the mayor at K700,” she said.
“The compactor has been recovered from the mayor’s residence. The two are detained at Kalulushi police station,” Ms Katanga said.
She explained that the road compactor went missing between February 13, 2018 and October 2018 and the matter was reported to police by Town Clerk Moses Mwewa.
She said police were looking for Mr. Chipasha for allegedly buying a stolen item.
“We are now looking for the husband of the mayor. When police officers were led to the residence where they went to recover the compactor, they found he was not there. We are now looking for him,” she added.
He is hiding under te bed.
