The mothers of Lusaka socialite Iris Kaingu kissed before sharing a piece of cake. Iris and Angela are in a polygamous marriage with Dr Michael Kaingu and the trio seem to be happily married.
In the photo, the two wives can be seen kissing and feeding each other cake. The photo was taken during Angela’s birthday last year when she turned 54. Angela is the second wife. The two wives have also been known to exchange expensive gifts to celebrate anniversaries.
In fact, Iris, Dr Kaingu’s first wife, played a key role in his marriage to Angela.
Actually she was her matron and her children were part of the bridal party. And when Angela had her first child in 1991, she named her after the senior wife. Dr Kaingu, who retired from active politics after losing his Mwandi seat in 2016, said he now has more time with his family and uses it for vacations to Mauritius, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
But marrying more than one wife is not something he recommends. In 2015, Dr Kaingu advised Members of Parliament against polygamous marriage.
He said while polygamy had worked well for him, it would not work for others.
