A 35-year-old man of Zambia Compound alleged before the Garneton local court last week that he found his wife, who had drawn up a time-table to sleep with him, committing adultery with her lover in their bedroom.
Testifying in a case where he sued his wife, Angela Zimba, 27, for divorce, Phillip Kabwe told the court that problems in his marriage started in 2017 when his wife drew up a timetable for sleeping with him. Kabwe said all was well when the couple got married in 2012 but that in 2017, Zimba suddenly lost respect for him, stopped doing house chores and drew up the time-table. He testified that neighbours and other people started telling him that his wife was having an affair with another man but that he did not act because he wanted to see it for himself.
Kabwe said one afternoon when he knocked off from work early, he allegedly found his wife sleeping with her lover on the matrimonial bed. He said a mob descended on the other man and beat him up severely but that he did not stop dating Zimba even after the incident. Kabwe said he called for a family meeting, where Zimba apologised in the presence of her relatives but surprisingly, she still continued the affair with the other man.
He alleged that Zimba, at some point, left the matrimonial house and returned later but she found a house which she was allegedly renting for her lover. Kabwe said when he went to work out of town for over a week, the same lover allegedly moved in with Zimba. But Zimba told the court that she was ready for the divorce because there was hardly any intimacy in the marriage. She said the inability to conceive was the source of problems in the marriage and not what the husband alleged in his testimony. Zimba said she had suggested that her husband brings in a second wife who could give him children but he refused. She told the court that she suspected that her husband’s manhood was malfunctional. Zimba also accused Kabwe of not being welcoming and disliking visitors in the home. And Kabwe requested the court to give him more time to think about reconciliation. Garneton senior presiding magistrate Mutono Banda reconciled the couple after giving them ample time to think about their future.
