ECZ Reduces Exam Fees for Grade 9 External Pupils

Minister of General Education David Mabumba has disclosed that his ministry has decided to reduce the examination fees for grade nine external exams.

Mr Mabumba explains that the move is aimed at ensuring that those women who work very hard by selling their goods in markets are given an opportunity to send their children to school.

The General Education Minister notes that there is a lot of misinformation with regards to the grade Nine Examinations.

Speaking when he graced this year international women’s day in Mansa, Mr Mabumba indicates that there has never been a policy in the country which forces those who fail to make it to grade 10 to repeat to grade nine.

He said the only issue which was there is the high amount which grade nine external candidates are required to pay.

The Minister observers that it is in this vein that his ministry will next week take the issue to Parliament to announce the reduction of these fees.

He points out that it is the desire of government to ensure that all children are given an equal opportunity to strive in the country.

Mr Mabumba further explains that once these fees are reduced, mothers will be able to continue sponsoring their children to school.

He further stated that, government will continue ensuring that it continues promoting the well-being of women in the country.

This year’s women’s day was celebrated under the theme: Think Equal, Build Smart and Innovate for Change.
