K55,000 Stolen From Car

A Zimbabwean man has been arrested for allegedly stealing K55,000 belonging to a businessman of Choma. Hope Vundula, 46, of Bulawayo, is said to have stolen the money with two other men from the businessman, who had withdrawn the cash from a bank and put it in a car. Southern Province Commissioner of Police Diamond Likashi said in a statement yesterday that the businessman, Job Mwiinga, 34, of Humba in Choma, said his money was stolen from his Toyota Hilux Twin Cab.

Mr Likashi said Vundula was with Peter Banda and John Phiri, both of Lusaka, who are on the run. “Entry was gained after breaking the rear left passenger door window,” he said. Mr Likashi said Mr Mwiinga said the money was for paying his suppliers of maize. He said K15, 000 has been recovered and a car which was used in the crime has been parked at the police station.
