Chipata Couple Killed In Road Accident Leaving Son Battling For Life

AN officer of the ministry of Agriculture and his wife who is a teacher have died on the spot while their nine-year-old son is battling for his life in Nyimba District Hospital following a road traffic accident On  Wednesday.

A source revealed  that the accident happened as the couple traveled to Kapiri in Central Province to take up their respective posts following employment tranfers.

A niece to the woman also died in the accident which happened around 14:00 hours.

Police Spokesperson Esther Mwata Katongo confirmed the deaths and identified the deceased as John Chileshe, his wife Milica Mutale Chileshe along with her niece Fainess Mulenga.

Katongo said the three died on the spot of the accident.

She said the accident happened around Chamilala area about 75 Kilometres West of Nyimba Boma on the Great East Road.

She explained that involved in the accident was Chileshe who was driving a Toyota Runx with four passengers on board from East to west and hit into a motor an Iveco truck which was being driven by Ibrahim Nasanganya, 37 of Blantyre, Malawi with two passengers on board coming from the opposite direction.

“The accident happened when the driver of the first motor vehicle Toyota Runx ACZ 9433 lost control of the motor vehicle due to excessive speed and went to hit into the oncoming motor vehicle Iveco truck registration number PE 2835/PE 8397T which was on its left near side,” Katongo explained.

She said the bodies of the three deceased had been taken to Nyimba District Hospital Mortuary.

“The injured Male juvenile Mapalo Chileshe aged nine of the same address is admitted to Nyimba District Hospital and male adult Franuel Mulenga and is admitted to St Francis Hospital,” Katongo stated.

Katongo said the drive of the truck and his two passengers survived the accident unhurt.

Before joining the ministry of Agriculture, Chileshe who was due to graduate from Rasangu University this September had been a long serving employee of late President Levy Mwanawasa’s Teka Farm.

His wife, Milica went to Nkuruma university and Kitwe College of Education
