Medland hospital has today been officially opened with a call by government for more public private partnerships to increase health facilities in the country.
The private hospital which is situated in Lusaka’s Northmead area has been constructed at a cost of us$32 million dollars with a bed capacity of 78.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Inonge Wina said the new hospital will supplement government’s efforts towards the promotion of universal coverage and employment creation.
Mrs Wina said the innovative and advanced medical facility the hospital has will play a key role in delivering quality health service to the community.
“The construction of Medland hospital provides an added avenue to meet the objective of providing sustainable infrastructure which is conducive for the delivery of quality health service”. Wina said.
At the same event, Medland Hospital Chief Executive Officer Mohammed El Sahili thanked government for creating a conducive environment for investment.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya said the hospital is a demonstration of government’s agenda to attain universal health coverage through private public partnerships.
Medland hospital is a combination of clinics and a cardiac VIP hospital. It’s the first cardiac hospital in Zambia.
The hospital will employ over 200 workers all of whom will be full time with local stuff accounting for 70 percent whole 30 percent are expatriates facilitating skills development and knowledge transfer.
