‘PF Divorces Kanyama Residents’

Untold misery and lack of proper representation in Kanyama Constituency have forced United Party for National Development (UPND)Deputy Chairman for Religious Affairs in Charge of Administration William Njombo to aspire for the 2021 polls.
And Mr Njombo has emphasised the need for deliberate policies that will compel business entities in Constituencies to prioritize employing  local people.
Speaking in an interview, the Kanyama born and bred, Rev Njombo said local people must be given first priority when it comes to employment opportunities in the industries that are located within the township.
Rev. Njombo said Kanyama was supposed to be the richest constituency in the country.
“It is heart breaking and confusing that Kanyama Constituency which is supposed to be the richest Constituency in the country as it is home to hundreds of industries…all of them making money at the expense of the people of Kanyama is still lagging in terms of development. I think, we do not need to set up any new industries in Kanyama but what we need to do revamp is to the already existing ones,” Rev. Njombo said.
He added that the UPND will put in place policies that are going to support the initiatives of the people of Kanyama, putting into consideration the skills and  talents the people of that great Constituency have.
“The people of Kanyama are endowed with talents and skills and all what is needed is to provide an enabling environment so that they can thrive. We are going there not really to do anything for them but to work with them. We want to put in place policies that are going to support their initiatives. They(Kanyama residents) have the capabilities and skills… all they need is leadership to create an enabling environment for them to do business freely and create employment opportunities so that people can be employed. You know, the majority of our people are in the informal sector and no one should cheat that they can create employment for all the people of Kanyama but at least, we can create an environment for them to do business freely and an environment where they can do business freely and are able to get a return from their investment,” Rev Njombo noted.
Meanwhile Rev. Njombo has bemoaned the high poverty levels in Kanyama Constituency.
“The people of Kanyama deserve better. The levels of poverty and misery in the lives of the people of Kanyama are untold. Therefore, we are here to offer alternative servant leadership, leadership that is going to inspire confidence, leadership that is going to priotise the welfare of the people of Kanyama. The People of Kanyama have seen this and it is the more reason they are engaging us to rescue them,” Rev Njombo said.
He added that the people of Kanyama are ready to show the Patriotic Front(PF) an exit door come 2021.
“The People of Kanyama are ready to show the PF an exit door . Their daily lives are testimony that there is no Government in Kanyama. It is the PF in the first place who have divorced the people of Kanyama and people have no choice but to look for an alternative leadership and this alternative leadership is available in the UPND. We are here to offer leadership that has a heart for the people,” Rev. Njombo stated.
He added that his passion is to see to it that the Constituency that gave birth to him, raised him and educated him was transformed into a better place for its people.
“Kanyama really matters; it is close to my heart. Firstly, because it is my place of birth, my first education came from the people of Kanyama, my relatives are all from kanyama and some are still in Kanyama. I believe that I owe a lot to Kanyama for giving birth to me, for raising me, for educating me. what more can I do? I feel obliged to give back to Kanyama through service and I feel that I need to do a lot for the people of Kanyama because I owe them everything that I am today. I think that, that is what motivates me. I know that there are a lot of people in that Constituency and pay huge taxes to the Government. If you put all their taxes together, believe me they have made Lusaka what it is and yet what do they get in return? There is nothing much to talk about. No proper road networks, the few roads that are there are dilapidated, no proper drainages. In this era, people of Kanyama are still using pits latrines. it is a sad state of affairs. I feel Kanyama deserves better. If we the sons of Kanyama do not rise up to do something better, who is going to help? This is what is pushing me to go for Kanyama in 2021. I want to better the lives of the people there,” Rev. Njombo explained.
