A 29-Year Old woman of Ndola has been dragged to court for allegedly pouring hot water on her 14-year-old niece after she suspected her of having a boyfriend. On July 10 this year around 21:00 hours, Charity Chanda allegedly poured hot water on her niece after she was found chatting with a boy. Chanda, a business lady, was charged with assault on a child but the offence was later changed to acts intended to cause grievous harm.
And when the matter came up before Ndola Magistrate Martin Akende, Chanda said she understood the charge. Magistrate Akende adjourned the matter to August 6 this year awaiting instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions to commit her to the High Court for trial. It is alleged that when Chanda sent her niece to the market, she was seen chatting with a boy, a situation which annoyed her aunt.
When the girl returned home, Chanda allegedly got boiling water from a pot on a brazier and poured it on her. The victim sustained burns on her back. Chanda is on bail.
