Following the notice given by the Road Transport and Safety Agency to set up speed cameras at seven new sites which include Lusaka’s Longacre’s, motorists operating around the area have received this with divided reactions.

Some motorists talked to by Phoenix News have welcomed the development and have called on the agency to ensure they put up signs indicating that there are cameras ahead.

They are of the view that once the cameras are set up, over speeding by some motorists will be reduce.

However, other motorists talked to feel the setting up of the speed cameras along Los Angeles Boulevard Road will increase congestion on the already congested road.

But Road Transport and Safety agency Head Public Relations Fred Mubanga says the setting up of the cameras follows trials which were conducted on these roads which indicated that about 65 percent of motorists drive above prescribed speed limit.

The new sites where the speed cameras will be set include, Longacres Los Angeles Boulevard Road, Lumumba Road, Great East Road between Airport Roundabout and Chongwe Town, Mungwi Road, Kafue Road between Shimabala Toll Plaza and Chirundu Boarder Post, Livingstone Road between Kafue Road junction and Choma and Great North Road between Katuba toll plaza and Kapiri Mposhi Town.
