Retired Govt Workers Occupying Govt Staff Houses Evicted

Some retired government workers occupying government staff houses within Munali Secondary School teachers compound, have complained of the abrupt move by government to evict them from the houses.

The workers who retired from various government departments have been served 14 days eviction notes and given repatriation allowances although they are still been owed other payments by government.

However, the occupants have vowed not to leave the houses until they are compensated for renovating the houses which they say were almost collapsing.

In an eviction letter signed by Lusaka Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Frazer Musonda and obtained by phoenix news, the occupants have been given 14 days in which to vacate their houses.

Those talked to by phoenix news have disclosed that some of the affected who are retired teachers have also been advised to collect their repatriation fees of up to k20, 000 from the ministry headquarters.

The eviction letters have also indicated that structures such as shops, chicken runs and car garages built within the premises be erased within 7 days, a move which the owners and the affected occupants of the houses in question are not happy about.

Efforts to get a comment from Lusaka Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Frazer Musonda proved futile as his phone was switched off.

Recently Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo said teachers from Munali and Kabulonga Boys and Girls Secondary Schools who have received full retirement package should leave the houses as government has no intentions of selling them.
