It is morally wrong for some section of society to use Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) to try and hijack the constitution-making process they were not keen to be part of.
We do not expect LAZ to stoop so low for them to be used by a clique of people to fight President Edgar Lungu.
John Sangwa is LAZ’s hired lawyer for the case in which they have dragged President Lungu, Attorney -General and the Speaker of the National Assembly to Court.
We are alive to Sangwa’s emotional attachment to his client Hakainde Hichilema whom he represented in the 2016 election petition case that flopped.
Its undisputable fact that the Constitutional amendment Bill no 10, which was recently presented to Parliament, contains resolutions arrived at by consensus of the National Dialogue Forum (NDF).
Its sheer hypocrisy for those who had shunned NDF to frustrate the majority Zambians’ time and resources sacrificed to come up with the said resolutions.
UPND’s double standard tactics on the constitutional amendment process is appalling− they are now opposing the outcome of the NDF of which they had shunned.
Away from that, we are fully aware that the UPND has taken advantage of the LAZ’s court case in their futile attempt to agitate for regime change.
We advise UPND to refrain from purporting to speak for the people they were not keen to represent as NDF delegates were the only legally constituted people‘s representatives.
In view of the foregoing, we strongly urge Zambians to reject UPND for betraying them by refusing to speak on their behalf at NDF as well as for agitating for regime change.
