A THIRTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD woman of Chaisa Township, who told the Matero Local Court that her blood was still running, has divorced her husband of 18 years for sexually starving her for one year. Doreen Zulu told the court that she cannot stay in a marriage without sex. “My husband stopped having sex with me in 2018.
He only lies on top of me from 20:00 to 06:00 hours the next morning daily and tells me that he feels better when he does that,” she said. Doreen said the couple even went to court for marriage reconciliation over the same issue but nothing in their marriage has changed up to now. She said she wonders why her husband’s manhood no longer erects for the past one year.
“He does not allow me to bath or he will accuse me of sleeping with other men. I cannot continue with his laying on me because he is too heavy, it is better for us to divorce,” Doreen said. The couple got married in 2000 and has five together. Doreen told the court that problems in her marriage started in 2017 when the couple would have sexual intercourse once in a while.
But Thomas told the court that his wife tells him that she does not feel good when she sleeps with him. He said it is not that he fails to perform but that Doreen says she has lost interest in him. “Last time we came to court for reconciliation but we failed to resolve the matter. I don’t want to divorce because I still love her,” Thomas said.
In passing judgement, magistrate Miyanda Banda granted the couple divorce on grounds that sexual starvation is one of the grounds on which a marriage can end. Thomas was also ordered to compensate Doreen with K10,000 and begin paying monthly child mainteinence of K 350.
