The problems we are experiencing in the energy sector are not new and its not like we didn’t expect this looking at the climatic changes we have been having in Zambia and around the world. So our main focus for now as a nation should a solution to a crisis. The blame game and complaints day and night wont solve this.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION:
I propose that the govt cuts all taxes on all solar related accessories, geysers, batteries, power banks inverters, panels, gas stoves, gas….etc basically just subsidize these things in the green energy bracket. Including generators.
Make them cheaper and affordable for each household. This will cushion the demand from consumers on ZESCO. Allowing the power utility company to put its house in order. Zesco needs to go green too. We have too much sunlight in this country.
We need two things, an immediate solution and a long term one.
If govt could approve the subsidies then private sector (entrepreneurs) can jump on it. This would really excite business men & women. Each household would have an inverter and battery, the business people will make profit and Zesco’s demand might reduce.
The frustration for people is living in the dark, they can’t entertain themselves with phones or TV and cooking too. People especially in the urban areas are so dependant on power its actually a necessity and we can’t do without. If you cannot give give through hydro power generation then let’s invest in an alternative but at the end of the day we need to have power to go about our normal lives. If this suggestion can be taken up, we can see serious change in the next 3months. I dare our leaders to try this. This proposal has actually worked in other countries too.
