Community Development and Social Welfare Minister Kampamba Chewe says she has noted with concern, the misinformation that has been peddled over alleged unpaid terminal benefits from the Zambia agency for persons living with disabilities (ZAPD) for former workers who retired in 2005.
The Minister has revealed to phoenix news that records at the Zambia agency for persons living with disabilities show that the agency does not owe any of its former employees terminal benefits as purported by the copperbelt chairperson for persons living with disabilities Moses Kabila who recently threatened to march to state house with 59 others to claim for alleged unpaid terminal benefits from the ZAPD since 2005.
Mrs Chewe has clarified that after a meeting with mr Kabila and officials from ZAPD during the week, it was discovered that the affected workers were merely advised to seek legal counsel if they felt they were owed money due to their persistent claims for payments to the tune of k150 000 despite ZAPD having paid them their dues.
She has further expressed sadness that the affected people have had to pay legal fees over a non-existent case as they are not owed any money.
Mrs Chewe has since engaged directors in her ministry and from the Zambia Agency for Persons living with disabilities to look at the plight of the affected people to see how they can be helped.
