WOMEN share more pornography on social media in Zambia than their male counterparts, the Zambia Information Communications Technology
Authority (ZICTA) has said.

The authority says women are both the most abused as well as the leading culprits when it comes to sharing nude images online.

Such, also, is the high traffic of fake news and pornography on Zambian social media platforms the country risks gaining for itself the dubious distinction of being number one in the region at the two vices.

ZICTA manager consumer protection and compliance Edgar Mulauzi said during a media briefing at the ZICTA open-day and exhibition in Ndola yesterday, that women are more often the victims of shared nude pictures than men.

“Do not take nudes! According to analysis of information as of Quarter-Two, 202 cases were received and 70 per cent of those were
mostly ladies sharing their nude pictures,” he said.

Mulauzi said women needed to be careful with online dating and relationships to avoid falling prey to the crafty people they were
relating with.

He said the authority was planning to meet with women’s organisations and other stakeholders to help sensitise women on the dangers of sharing pornographic material online and how to say ‘no’ to being pressured or coaxed into sharing their private information.
