‘Nurse’ Nabbed For Child Theft

***Alert taxi driver saves eight-day baby from fake nurse

AN ALERT taxi driver of Kitwe o n T u e s d a y saved an eightday-old baby f r o m b e i n g stolen by a woman who pretended to be a nurse. The ordeal started in Racecourse Township where a couple was approached by a woman dressed in a nurse’s uniform who asked if they had procedural medical tests. The woman then told Gift Nakazwe, 17, and her husband Collins Sinkala, 24, to follow her to Buchi Clinic so that they could do the tests. The couple agreed to follow her but on their way to Buchi, the woman suggested that they first go to town to get some syringes.

While in town, the woman asked Mr Sinkala to get some syringes from one of the drugstores while she remained with the mother and the baby. She then told Mrs Sinkala that they go to After 10 restaurant to buy some drinks, after which she booked a taxi and they went to After 10. While at After 10, the woman took the baby from its mother and asked her to go and buy food from the restaurant.

When the mother went inside the restaurant, the woman asked the taxi driver to drop her at Buchi Clinic. The taxi driver, Steward Mando, became suspicious and alerted members of the public who apprehended the woman and took her to Kitwe Central Police Station. Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga confirmed the incident and identified the woman as Sharon Mwansa, 30, of house number 143 in Ndeke Village. Mrs Katanga said the suspect has been charged with child stealing.

“The child has been recovered and the suspect will appear in court soon,” she said. And investigations by the Daily Mail revealed that the woman gave false information to police officers about her name, residential address and age. The Daily Mail established that the woman is actually Sandra Lombe Mulenga, 34, a sales agent for one of the solar companies in Kitwe.

Mulenga is married but has no child and stays in New Ndeke Overspill. Apparently, she disappeared from home on Tuesday and her family did not know where she had gone until yesterday when they learnt that she was in police custody. Some family members spoken to said what they know was that Mulenga was pregnant. Mulenga keeps her mother, who wept uncontrollably upon learning about what her daughter had done. “She has a good job and she lives in a very big house with a car park,” one of the sources said
