Tourism and Arts Minister Ronald Chitotela has pledged to engage his counterparts at the Ministries of Mines and Land and Environmental Protection on the proposed mining activities in the Lower Zambezi National Park.
Mr. Chitotela says certain operational conditions have to be met before the commencement of the mining activities in the Lower Zambezi National Park.
The Minister says the Zambia Wildlife Act Number 14 of 2015 gives specific instructions on how mining activities in the national parks must be conducted.
Mr. Chitotela was speaking in Lusaka during an engagement with some stakeholders opposed to the Lusaka High Court’s decision to throw out a petition on the impending mining activities at the National Park.
And Zambia Community Based Natural Resources Management National Coordinator Noah Chongo said his organisation respects the Rule of Law and cherishes dialogue with Government on contentious issues.
Mr. Chongo said his organization is requesting the Minister to hear the public outcry based on real issues and the challenges that might be posed by the impending mining project in the Lower Zambezi National Park.
