PARENTS of a one-month-old baby who was breastfed by a maid, who is allegedly HIV-positive, want justice to prevail in the case. The infant’s mother, who declined to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter, said in an interview yesterday that she is mentally and emotionally disturbed because she considered the maid to be a good woman.

Police yesterday arrested and charged a 29-year-old woman with negligent act likely to spread infection. This was after the suspect, who is allegedly HIV-positive, and employed as a maid by a Zambia National Service officer, was found breastfeeding her boss’s one-monthold baby. “This is too traumatising. I am trying to understand why she has done this.

We have been good to this woman. She has been like family to us. “I was home washing my baby’s clothes after bathing him. I was putting the clothes on the line, after which I decided to peep through the window to check on the baby. I was shocked to see my maid breastfeeding the baby,” she said
