300MW Eskom Electricity Kick Into ZESCO Power Lines

Zambia has received 300 Megawatts power import from South Africa’s ESKOM.

Minister of Energy Mathew Nkhuwa has comfirmed this confirmed to Diamond TV News.

Zesco has however not independently confirmed the commencement of electricity imports from South Africa.

Mr Nkhuwa says 27 million dollars has been paid to import power for only a period of one month.

According to the minister 20.5 million Dollars is the total cost of the imported power and 6.5 million Dollars for arrears.

Mr. NKhuwa says the 300 Megawatts received will only reduce power load shedding by two hours.

Zambia is currently experiencing a power deficit of 872MW with load shedding of over 15 hours.
