ZAMBIA-China Mulungushi Textile which has been a white elephant for decades is expected to be operational anytime soon as the Chinese investor has made headways to refurbish the infrastructure, Central Province Minister Sydney Mushanga has said.
Mr Mushanga said the Chinese investor was doing everything possible to complete refurbishment of the entire infrastructure as soon as possible.
He said in an interview yesterday that more work had been done so far, adding that the works would be completed within schedule.
The minister said the investor was now refurbishing flats and administration offices and once that was done the investor and Zambian government would indicate the next stage.
“As we are speaking now the investor is working on the flats and the administration offices. These are signs that the investor is committed to ensure that the place is beautified and becomes a conducive to the people who will be working in the premises,” Mr Mushanga said.
He said the rehabilitation were an indication of commitment on the part of the Chinese investor and Zambian government to have the factory openned.
It is hoped that once the plant was in full gear, it would help in improving the livelihood of people in the province through job creation and subsequently enhance the economic growth in the area.
The minister urged the investor to speed up works so that the plant started operating.
