Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) says it is illegal to impose salary cuts on civil servants

Union Secretary General Cosmas Mukuka says salary cuts will economically suffocate civil servants regardless of the percentage.

And Attorney General Likando Kalaluka says his office is examining President Edgar Lungu’s directive to cut salaries ranging from 10 to 20 percent.

On December 27 2019, President Edgar announced that he will cut his salary by 20 percent and also directed deduction of a percentage ranging from 10 to 20 percent for highly paid civil servants to mitigate fuel and electricity hikes.
