Zambian DNA has noted that calls by some section of society for early polls are baseless as there is no need for President Edgar Lungu to cut his five-year term mandate to govern short because the Head of State has exhibited exemplary leadership qualities.
We are aware that President Lungu’s five-year mandate expires in 2021,and that the country goes to the polls after every five years as prescribed by the Republican Constitution.
We expect those who are aspiring for the highest office in the land to be patient and wait for 2021 when the country goes to the polls.
Nevertheless, we are confident that the Zambian people will renew their social contract with President Lungu in 2021 and beyond given the fact he is delivering on his campaign promises.
However,we are shocked that some power-hungry politicians ,in an alliance with CSOs and media outlets hostile to Government, are calling for early polls in their desperate attempt to unseat President Lungu.
We urge the Zambian people to support President Lungu as he delivers on his campaign promises without leaving any one behind.
