Eyewitness accounts tell Byta FM News that the deceased is one of three suspects who wanted to gas a house at Mazabuka Motel area around 01:00 Hours to 02:00 Hours Wednesday morning.

They recount that residents mobilized and caught one of the suspects, beat him before he was rescued by police who took him to the hospital.

She says they found a pipe, key, lock and strange objects that liked charms.

However, residents went to the hospital and forced their way into the ward, dragged the suspect out and set ablaze within the premises.

Meanwhile, police reportedly fired teargas to disperse the mob at the hospital, a situation that Mazabuka Mayor, Vincent Lilanda has described as unfortunate.

Lilanda, who called on residents to avoid taking the law into their hands, has questioned why government is delaying to quell ongoing gassing incidents that have led to riots and a rise in instant mob justice cases.

He adds that initial information from police suggests the suspect was a petty thief and not a gasser.
