Let me assure you that the State will not discriminate on the clampdown of suspects in the current wave of criminal attacks.
I am dismayed by the growing number of unguarded statements in the media from both the ruling and opposition parties, as well as members of the public and yet everyone knows where to report acts of crime.
I expect law enforcement agencies to visit individuals that seem to know more about the current crimes than the State. I believe this will enable the State to unlock the mystery around these crimes.
It is therefore warped thinking to imagine that Government can turn against it’s own people just because of an effort to incarcerate one Zambian. We are a responsible Government that exists to protect our people and not to harm them.
At the end of the day, the people being attacked are Zambians and they may belong to any political party of their choice. This being the case, of what benefit would it be for government to attack it’s own people?
Let me turn to the perpetrators: To the people behind the current crimes, we are coming for you whether from the ruling or opposition party, Church or NGO! We are coming for you regardless of who you are and what you are! No red herring will distract the current investigations!
In this regard, I am calling for maturity from political players. In an event that the country is faced with serious crimes such as now, citizens, including the Opposition are expected to be patriotic and not use the opportunity to score points.
Let me also caution professional media not to be used by politicians that thrive on grim events happening in the country.
Let me also warn against Citizens taking the law in their own hands as that makes those involved equally culpable because destruction of property and taking people’s lives are heinous crimes. The Police and courts exist for suspects to undergo the due process of law.
Zambians are not known for inflicting harm on fellow Citizens and destroying institutions that are meant to serve them like hospitals and police stations. So where has this culture come from?
Lastly, let me thank the Church for the initiative to have national prayers this coming Saturday to pray for the nation and it’s people amidst these criminal acts. I am also urging citizens countrywide to pray for peace and support the Church so that evil can be exorcised from the nation.
