Several alleged illegal structures among them houses and shops are earmarked for demolition in Lusaka’s Mtendere East compound.
The plan by the Lusaka city council has sparked outcry among the affected residents.
According to the council, the said structures were illegally constructed on a road reserve.
But the residents do not agree with the council’s decision saying they will not allow their houses to be demolished.
One of the affected residents Tom Phiri says he has been paying ground rates to the local authority since he constructed his shop and is therefore demanding compensation.
The demolition is scheduled for March 3rd.
