ZESCO To Continue Loadshedding Schedule Of Upto 12Hours Till End Of April

ZESCO limited says the utility will maintain the 10/12 hours’ load management policy until a review is conducted at the end of April 2020.

Company managing director Victor Mundende has attributed this resolve to constraints in power generation saying water levels at the Kariba are significantly low with a projected deficit of 810 megawatts.

Addressing journalists on the status of power generation, demand and measures to mitigate power deficit in Lusaka today, Mr. Mundende further explained that as of March 2020, water levels at the Kariba reservoir stood at 12% full compared to 42% full at the same time last year ultimately representing an ideal capacity of 69% which he says is still significantly low.

He said this during a presentation presented on his behalf by ZESCO director strategy and corporate services Patrick Mwila.

And Mr. Mundende has revealed that the utility has currently utilized 25% of the 11billion cubic meters of the annual water allocation allocated to the firm by the Zambezi River Authority in an effort to enhance power generation.

He has since appealed to members of the general Citizenry to minimize power utilization, use alternative sources of energy and switch and save power when not in use to mitigate the prevailing power deficit.
