A THIRTY-SEVEN-YEAR OLD man of Lusaka has ditched his wife for allegedly showing up home around 02:00 hours. William Kapili says he no longer wants to live with Enety Nkhata, 28, because she broke the rules he gave her. Kapili said he has on several occasions warned Nkhata to stop coming late but that his advice has fallen on deaf ears.
He was testifying in his case of marriage reconciliation against his wife. “My wife has been coming home late on the pretext that she knocks off from work late, I have warned her on two occasions but my advice fell on deaf ears,” Kapili said. He told the court that he locked the door and Nkhata slept ouside for failure to follow the rules he set for her. Kapili said his wife has been failing to do her duties as his wife. “My wife no longer cooks or washes for me, she entrusts that duty to her friends.
There is no use for ME to keep a wife who cannot do her duties, I no longer love my wife,” he said. Kapili told the court that Nkhata has been counselled by the couple’s families but to no avail. But Nkhata in her testimony earlier told the court that her husband has been looking for excuses to get rid of her. “My husband has been illtreating me from the inception of our marriage, he leaves me without anything to eat. I started work so that I should help myself,” she said.
Nkhata told the court that she gets home around 20:00 hours because she works in 22 Miles area. She refuted her husband’s claim that she got home at 02:00 hours but her latest time was 21:00 hours. Nkhata told the court that it is better for Kapili to tell her if he no longer wants her unlike mistreating her. In passing judgment, magistrate Miyanda Banda dismissed the claim for reconciliation because Kapili was not willing to reconcile
