A WOMAN who was stripped of her clothes in the presence of her nephews has ditched his 36-yearold husband for mistreating her. Rabecca Sakala, 28, of Garden township, says she has changed her mind and no longer wants to live with her husband, Stephano Mwiya, 36. Sakala was testifying in a matter in which her husband sued her for marriage reconciliation. “My husband beat me and then took me outside and stripped me of my clothes in the presence of my nephews and other people.

I was embarrassed and I left my matrimonial home,” she said. Sakala told the court that another time, Mwiya beat her and threw her into a drainage. She said she has endured enough torture from her husband and cannot take it anymore. “At one time I caught him having sex with another woman on our matrimonial bed but I forgave him. This time around I am not going back. I have lost the love I had for him,” Sakala said. Earlier, Mwiya told the court that he loves his wife and pleaded with the court to reconcile the pair.

He said it will be the children who will suffer if the couple divorces. “I beat my wife because she lied to another man that she is not married. However, I apologised for my behaviour in the presence of our two families,” Mwiya said. He told the court that he was shocked to find that Sakala had packed her bags after he went out for work.

Mwiya told the court that he has been sending text messages to his wife to ask for forgiveness but she has ignored his pleas. “I am appealing to the court to compel my wife to forgive me so that we can go back home together and raise our children,” he said. In passing judgement, Magistrate Miyanda Banda dismissed the claim for reconciliation on grounds that Sakala was not willing to reconcile
