A WOMAN of Kabanana has narrated how her husband abandoned her on the pretext that he was going to look for work in Kawambwa. Carren Milimo, 33, told the Matero Local Court that her husband, Gibson Mtambo, 34, disappeared from home after he told her that he was going to work out of town. Milimo was testifying in a matter in which she sued Mtambo for divorce.

The couple got married in 2008 and has one child. “He told me that he was going to work from Kawambwa and that is how he disappeared. I still don’t know where he is staying,” she said. Milimo told the court that Mtambo neglected her and stopped providing food for the family. She told the court that she suspects that her husband is married to another woman.

Milimo said: “I want to divorce him but he pleaded that we reconcile, it is better for us to divorce.” She told the court that last time Mtambo followed her at her sister’s place and assaulted her. Milimo told the court that her husband has decided to divorce because she has reported him for gender-based-violence (GBV) and opened a docket for him.

But Mtambo, in his submission, told the court that he did not have second thoughts about divorcing his wife but she packed her goods and abandoned him for five months for no reason. He said he has lost interest in Milimo because he does not know where she went in the five months she disappeared from home. Mtambo said: “I don’t know what she was doing where she had gone. She only came back home after she heard that I had gone out for work in Kawambwa.” He told the court that he lost interest in Milimo when he went to Kawambwa. Magistrate Miyanda Banda adjourned th
