Government Awaits Report On Bonetti Sacking

Sports minister Fackson Shamenda says he waiting for a briefing on the firing of Zambia coach Dario Bonetti.

Shamenda said in an interview on Tuesday that he was unaware of circumstances leading to Bonetti’s sacking.

“I need to consult. I have not been brief yet. I understand Kalusha Bwalya (FAZ president) came to my office yesterday (Monday) but I was out of town,” he said. “I am still waiting for a briefing before I can comment.”

Bonetti was sacked on Monday, 48 hours after guiding Zambia to a 15th Africa Cup of Nations, thanks to a goalless draw against Libya.

The Italian is demanding over US$ 1million (approximately over K5 billion) as compensation of the contract which was scheduled to expire in July 2012 but, according to the contract, was automatically extended for another year following the Africa Cup qualification.

Bonetti arrived in Zambia in June 2010 and has played 15 matches in total winning eight, drawing four and losing three.
