K25 Billion Drugs Deal: 3 Zambians Nabbed In SA
THREE Zambians have been arrested in South Africa for trafficking in mandrax worth more than K25 billion, South African police have said.
The three Zambians aged between 32 and 40 were arrested on Duncan Road in Gauteng on Saturday for transporting drugs with an estimated street value of 43 million Rands.
According to South Africa’s E News channel, the trio would appear in Randfontein magistrate’s court on charges of drug trafficking.
Captain Pinky Tsinyare said the men were arrested by the country’s elite crime prevention unit, HAWKS after they received a tip off.
Ms Tsinyare said the truck was pulled over and searched.
“The truck looked empty but police managed to identify a false compartment where bags full of mandrax were hidden,” she said.
The truck laden with the drugs was believed to have been from Tanzania and had entered South Africa through the Botswana border.
And the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested two business executives for trafficking in two rocks of heroin and 118 packs of hashish cake.
Louis Ntalasha 28, has been arrested and jointly charged with Evans Mwale 27, also a business executive and both of John Laing Township for trafficking in two rocks of heroin and 118 balls of hashish cake.
DEC acting public relations officer Theresa Katongo said the two suspects were apprehended in Chibolya Township as they were trying to source a market for the drugs.
The DEC has also arrested at student from the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) in Lusaka for drug trafficking.
Fanwell Kalangwa 25, was arrested for being in possession of one sachet of heroin and loose cannabis.
In Kitwe, Stanslous Ngosa reports that a suspected overspeeding mini bus knocked down three male pedestrians killing one instantly and injuring the rest in a hit and run case on the Ndola-Kitwe dual carriage way near Chamboli Township.
Copperbelt police chief Mary Tembo said the incident happened on Saturday around 18.00 hours and that the victims had not yet been identified and police had since launched a manhunt for the mini bus driver.
In Kabwe, police have arrested a woman for stabbing to death her former lover in Kabwe’s Kawama Township, reports Kasonde Kasonde.
Central Province Police chief Solomon Jere said Willy Zimba 30, was yesterday stabbed to death by Bupe Mupeta 22, of the same township.
Dr Jere said initial reports indicated that the two had ended their relationship and the woman had gotten married to another man but Zimba insisted that the two reconcile which infuriated Bupe.
A fight ensued between the two who were taking some local brew and Zimba attempted to hit Bupe with a local wine bottle but Bupe who was chopping vegetables, picked a knife and stabbed him in the stomach.
Dr Jere said Bupe’s motive of killing Zimba was that he wanted to reconcile with her despite her being married to another man.
He said police were still investigating the matter and Bupe had been detained at Bwacha police station while Zimba’s body was in the Kabwe General Hospital mortuary. Bupe would appear in court soon.

In zambia if u nabbed with 2 balls of chamba u wil be charged hardly and those drug barons wil run escot free lyk a fluff in the desert or like that mini bus driver who hit and run padestrians .

Zambians are amoung the most trusted and respected foreign nationals in South Africa and this does not bode well for us. We cannot afford to have such a tarnished image as it compromises a lot of men and women who travel to South Africa for business. I really do not feel very warm about this, coz Zambian visitors to SA may now be subjected to very stringent and dehumanising searches at entry points. The Zambian High Commission needs to urgently find a way of putting things in proper pespective.
