President Michael Sata has appointed and sworn-in two more MMD members of parliament to serve as deputy ministers in his government.
The President is empowered by the republican constitution to appoint members of the executive from among Members of Parliament regardless of political affiliation.
Those appointed are MMD’s Solwezi East Member of Parliament Richard Taima as deputy minister in the ministry of Commerce and Mkaika MMD parliamentarian David Phiri who will serve as deputy minister of tourism and Arts.
The appointments comes barely a day after MMD leader Nevers Mumba made another passionate appeal to the MMD parliamentarians currently in government to resign of face expulsion from the party.
The latest presidential appointments bring to ten the number of MMD parliamentarians serving in the PF government.
Other MMD deputy ministers witnessed the swearing in ceremony of colleagues. These are Patrick Chikusu, Nicholaus Banda, Keith Mukata and Elijah Muchima.
And president Sata said during the swearing-in ceremony that the PF government has a sufficient number of MPs in Parliament to run government.
The president however, stated that his decision to appoint opposition MPs is meant to enhance inclusiveness in the country%u2019s governance system.
President Sata hinted that the PF government would also be willing to work with another MMD Parliamentarian in filling up the vacancy in the ministry of energy following the resignation of MMD Lumezi Member of Parliament Isaac Banda.
The head of state teasingly wondered how the Mr. Banda could have bowed to pressure from MMD leader Nevers Mumba who at one point left his own party for the position of vice president which was dangled to him by late former president Levy Mwanawasa.
And speaking to journalists after the swearing-in ceremony, Mr Taima noted that as a parliamentarian he has a duty to serve the people of Zambia at all levels of governance.
Mr. Taima noted that he consulted widely before taking up the appointment and has since indicated that the people in his constituency have given him their blessings to serve in the PF government.
Meanwhile President Sata has also appointed Rose Katula and Shadrick Musichili as permanent secretaries for the ministry of defence and Copperbelt province respectively.

Ahahahahahahahaha………Excellent move; it’s in the interest of national development. Being MPs is not just to make noise in parliament but also to have the Govt support your constituency as the public service worker of ‘em

It is interesting to note that the constitution empowers the president to appoint Ministers from among all the MPs but why shoud he only keep appointing those from the MMD as though there were only two political parties in parliament? Let him also appoint those from the UPND. Otherwise the move is plitically calculated to weaken the bigger opposition in the country a move which undermines the very essence of democracy.

Munthu Mu Zambian, politics is about calculations and machinations. You survive by calculating to keep your rivals at bay thereby perpetuating your survival, or you lose it. Thats just it!! When you and I are sleeping and re-energising or de-energising, they are there scheming and ploting to sustain their grip onto power, and of course they try to serve us in between. By the way, it’s smarter than rigging or tribalising!

Nothing wrong with all this.
If the President wished he could have appointed many MPs from the opposition even on his ascendancy to power….
Reason is, the Constitution allows him to do so.
Let us Zambians not even waste time debating this or threatening appointed MMD MPs dismissal by their party. If they are dismissed MMD could lose them to PF even more legitimately…why not not deal with the devil you know.
Or some people not happy even attempting to budge into State House! It is a sheer waste of time…
I found this Operation Sunday Storm into State House very very…funny and embarrassing indeed for Dr. Mumba….
Earlier in the day he was humbling himself in Church but was later the same day lumpening himself trying to attract public attention by storming State House…ati that’s why it is State House..it is for all Zambians…..Yes but for decent self respecting Zambians I must add…

I hear Mrs. Mumba in Canada is disappointed about the Operation Sunday Storm carried out by her husband.

CARELESS AND CHEEKY ZESCO MANAGEMENT
Please mr. editor publish this piece, am really pissed off with zesco
Information is power-A good corporate citizen believes in information dissemination to its various stakeholders. I shudder to think whether zesco has any regard for its customer let alone the shareholders- we the people of zambia. The managemnt at zesco has been so careless ans cheekyin the way the have been running out company – one tends to wonder whether we have a management at zesco-day in day outwe have enefficencies in all areas of their operations be it faults resolution, customer service delivery and load shedding management- water supply to our homes has become erratic in lusaka because of zesco~s casaual way of handling matters of national importance… On a daily basis we have shut down notices appearing in our newspapers about routine maintance works in various townships- A question we need anwers from zesco is, how long are you going to be conducting your maintenace works, because it seems this company is just hiding its eneficinces in the name of routine maintenance works at the expense of supply us with reliable electricity.Do these people at zesco even know how much it is costing this compnnay those notices they are publishing in the newpapers?
My further concern i have is why should zesco be signing transimmision lines construction in namibia? where will the electricity come from that will be transimitted on the lines because right now we have adequate generation supply- or is a case of corruption at zesco and construction companies. God we beg of you please serve us. Why cany these people constrate on sourcing for money for new power station costruction.
Mr. Editor, this management of Chitundu has really failed us- this is a compnay that has no regard for the the it serves, whatever, they are doing there, no one is explaining to us, what company is this that cant give information- we demand that ingformation is adequatly provided to us because we own that company, maybe president Sata should appoint someone to speak on behalf zesco since he is the one that appointed the MD.
This cmpnany has well trained members of staff am sure but we are left wondering why we are being treated as if we are not in the information age.President sata won the last elections on the promise transparency, corrupt free society, but i see zesco drifting away from the PF government slogan.. maybe these people should be provided with the PF Manifest so that they know the plans of the party .
Can all zambians rise and demand wht is right for them from this monister-zesco…it is too much we cant live in a country like thsi, our children cant write their homw work because of load shedding.
Frustrated zesco customer
