Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has says move by President Michael Sata to appoint with members of the opposition to serve in the government is within the confines of the law.
TIZ executive director Goodwell Lungu says the however, it would have been the better if the government had made the appointments in consultation with the opposition political parties.
Mr. Lungu notes that the involving the opposition in the appointment would ensure that the government and opposition political parties have a win-win situation.
Yesterday, President Sata swore in MMD’s Richard Taima and David Phiri as deputy ministers of Commerce and tourism respectively.
This now brings the number of the MMD members of parliament serving in government to 10.
And Mr. Lungu has also urged the PF government to ensure that judicial reforms in the country done in a quick and comprehensive manner.
Mr. Lungu says there is need for the country to have a judicial system that will be responsive to the needs of the citizen as well as ensure that the court cases are disposed off in good time.
He was speaking to QFM news in an interview.
And the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) says there is nothing wrong with President Michael Sata forming an inclusive government.
EFZ Executive Director Pukuta Mwanza has also questioned assertions that the appointment of 10 Members of Parliament for the MMD as deputy ministers is an assault on democracy.
Reverend Mwanza has told that inclusiveness is a pre-requisite of democracy and that political parties must support their appointed members to contribute directly to national development and serve the Zambian people diligently.
He has therefore appealed to the opposition to mobilize their political parties and come up with a formidable opposition that will provide constructive checks and balances on government policies.
The clergyman adds that plans by the opposition to go round the country to campaign against the appointments of its members in government can only yield positive results if government’s intensions are to weaken the MMD.
Reverend Mwanza has however advised President Sata to consult to with the party leadership before appointing any Parliamentarian from the opposition into government.

I wonder why the obvious & straight forward make people strain to put them forward. The script above is pathetic. I couldnt finish it but I trust it contains the message saying ‘the president must consult’

Ma rubbish….i thought these chaps would ask CNP where the money for the new districts will come from? Where the money for the new ministries will come from? These are the same sh..t heads who were falling over each other running to mmmembe’s post to cry foul over MMD’s formula one raod projects. They asked GRZ to explain where the money was coming from as there was no budget allocation. Well ba mambala, remove your brains from your groins and do some real work. Lifuka, ulipo? Hahahaha…..JOKERS!

APPOINTMENTS ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH. LET THE PRESIDENT ADVERTISE THE POSITIONS AND SUITABLE OPPOSITION MPs TO APPLY AND CHOSEN ON MERIT. TIZ IS ALSO MISSING THE POINT. TRANSPARENCY IN WHATEVER WE DO IS KEY. THE IDEA OF JUST APPOINTING WILL TAKE US NO WHERE.

There is nothing wrong with CNP appointing people from the opposition to be Deputy Ministers but it the impunity with which he is making the appointments. First of all CNP must come to terms with the fact that he does not have a competent cadre of people from his party from where he can make these appointments. I wish he could make these appointments with a sober mind. How does he know that in the event of a bye-election his party will be victorious regard being had to the fact that these Ministers come from MMD strongholds and the recent performance of PF in recent bye-elections leaves much to be desired. All these should be factored when he is making these elections.
I rest my case

NO TIZ…..THE CONSTITUTION DOES NOT PROVIDE FOR CONSULTATION.
IF IT DID THEN IT WOULD WATER AWAY THE PREROGATIVE OF THE PRESIDENT TO APPOINT ANYBODY HE SO WILLS.
TELL ME, WOULD THE PRESIDENT HAVE TO CONSULT TIZ IF HE WANTS TO APPOINT MR. LIFUKA?
IT WOULD BE UP TO MR. LIFKA TO CONSULT TIZ..IF HIS TERMS OF REFERENCE REQUIRE HIM TOO.
THANK YOU
