Chief Nsefu of the Kunda people of Mfuwe has been arrested by Zambia Wildlife Authority [ZAWA] for poaching 3 impalas in the south Luangwa national park. This is not the first time the chief has been involved in wildlife crimes. It is now the third time and he had gone scot free the previous two times.
“Please ba tumfweko help us to bring this incident to the public so that appropriate action is taken against this poacher. chiefs must be examples to their subjects and not promote lawlessness. What example is nsefu giving to the public or are chiefs immune to law?. we wait to see what action the government takes against this.”

DEAR YOUR EXCELLENCY, I REPORT TO YOU SIR THAT ZAMBIA HAS HAD A SERIOUS BREAKDOWN IN LAW AND ORDER. UPON BEING ELECTED, YOU HAD PLEDGED TO RECRUIT MORE POLICE OFFICERS AND INCREASE THE BED SPACE IN PRISONS. THIS COUNTRY HAS LAWS AND WHAT LACKS IS POLICING. BUT IN THIS POACHING CASE, FOR A CHIEF TO BE IN THE FOREFRONT OF BREAKING THE LAW IS WORRYING, AS HIS SUBJECTS CANNOT LISTEN TO HIM OR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS.
SIR YOU MAY FURTHER WISH TO KNOW THAT TODAY, AT 21 HOURS, I WAS ALMOST KILLED BY A MINIBUS DRIVER ON LUMUMBA ROAD AND ALL HIS PASSENGERS WERE EQUALLY AT RISK FOR THE MINIBUS DRIVER’S FAILURE TO OBSERVE TRAFFIC LIGHT SIGNALS.
THIS MATTER IS VERY SERIOUS AND RTSA AND THE POLICE NEED TO BE VIGILANT AND ARREST LAW BREAKERS. ITS A CRIMINAL MATTER AND THE PUBLIC IS AT RISK. THERE IS SO MUCH UNEMPLOYMENT IN ZAMBIA. WHY CANT RTSA EMPLOY MORE YOUTHS TO HELP ARREST SUCH SITUATIONS AND MONEY WILL COME FROM THESE CRIMINALS TO PAY THE UNEMPLOYED YOUTHS? MR. PRESIDENT, I REST MY CASE.

A EUROPEAN TROPHY HUNTER IS ALLOWED TO KILL ANIMALS discriminately for a fee, so that he can pose for a photo at the end of it. Yet when a Zambian man kills this same animal for food, he becomes a criminal. Yet we know that our animal population was disseminated by the European big game hunters in the 19th century. The same is what happened to the bison (American buffalo) in the USA until it was almost hunted down into extinction.
ZAWA needs to find a fair solution for the management of these game reserves so that they also benefit the local population instead of focussing on Europeans who are the root cause of this problem.

The chief must not be arrested. He should instead be given a hunting lisense and be allowed a number of animals a year. How can someone eat vegies throughout the year when his backyard is full of animals, ZAWA, be reasonable!!!

Chiefs should be entitled to game meat per month for ration at their palaces. It will make a little difference to kill one impala per month than subjecting our chiefs to your good law misapplied. These chiefs have been eating these nyama from time immemorial to curb the scourge give them as i said. ZAWA offices are always eating buffalo meat as ration per month. What more for the landlord? Lets be sensible and solve this matter amicably.

Ba Marie-Anne, please ask before u start talking talking. Chief Nsefu is not hurting for meat nor is he starving. everyone who lives in the area and knows this guy was happy to see him behind bars for once. and we are praying he gets prosecuted. there should be no sacred cows when it comes to enforcing the law. Nsefu was once a wildlife police officer. even if he is the chief he shud know better than to flaunt his poaching in the face of ZAWA officers. how does one go in the park through the gate, shoot a bunch of animals and drives out through the same gate with the animals for all to see? thats asking for trouble. I am ashamed to have this guy as my senior chief. what a terrible example. Not only is he an extremely violent man but also a perpetual rapist and poacher. KALONGA NDINE OTEMWA BAKUMANGANI.Coming to trophy hunters, i agree zawa needs to do a better job of regulating it. those bring much needed money into the country. waaay more than photographic safaris. so iwe ka marie-anne are you saying anyone who wants meat shud just go and shoot one because they are hungry. what will happen to the prey base for large carnivores if every jack and jill can kill animals for food? By his non-stop poaching, nsefu is telling his people it is okey to do. there are almost 70 000 people in Lupande GMA and if each one claimed to be hungry wont animals be poached out in a short time. Ukazi nkala nanzelu.
